Day 13 – Final Publishing Studio & Author Showcase Preparation

Time: 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Focus

Today is our final publishing workday before tomorrow's Author Showcase. Students will complete every remaining detail of their portfolio, record their author videos, select the anthology cover, and ensure their work is ready for publication.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Complete and submit a polished digital author portfolio.

  • Share their portfolio with the teacher using Editor access.

  • Proofread and revise all writing one final time.

  • Complete any unfinished artwork.

  • Present and vote on the final anthology cover.

  • Practice and record a brief author introduction and reading for the showcase video.

Schedule

8:30–8:50 | Morning Meeting: "The Final Stretch"

  • Review today's publishing checklist.

  • Discuss what professional authors do before publication.

  • Explain the timeline for tomorrow's Author Showcase.

8:50–10:15 | Final Portfolio Completion

Students will:

  • Verify that every required page is included:

    • Cover Page

    • About the Author

    • Lifemap

    • Name Poster

    • Family Tree

    • Name Chapter

    • Family Chapter

    • Neighborhood Chapter

    • Friendship Chapter

    • Hero Chapter

    • Dreams Chapter

  • Check formatting and organization.

  • Upload any missing documents or artwork.

  • Share the completed portfolio with the teacher using Editor access.

Teacher conferences with students needing technical assistance.

10:15–10:25 | Break

10:25–11:30 | Final Revision & Proofreading

Students complete one last quality check using the Publishing Checklist.

Review:

  • Spelling

  • Grammar

  • Punctuation

  • Capitalization

  • Complete sentences

  • Dialogue formatting

  • Consistent fonts

  • Proper image placement

  • Readable speech bubbles

  • Chapter titles

  • Overall presentation

Students exchange portfolios with one partner for a final peer review before making any last revisions.

11:30–11:50 | Anthology Cover Presentations

Each design team will:

  • Present its final cover mockup.

  • Explain design choices.

  • Receive brief class feedback.

The class will vote to select the official anthology cover for publication.

11:50–12:30 | Lunch

12:30–1:45 | Author Video Recording

Students will first practice with a partner before recording.

Each student will:

  • Introduce themselves.

  • Share why they selected their favorite chapter.

  • Read 2–3 sentences from that chapter with expression and confidence.

Suggested Script

"Hi! My name is ____________. My favorite chapter is __________ because ____________. I'd like to share a short excerpt from my story."

Teacher records individual clips to create the Author Showcase highlight reel.

1:45–2:20 | Final Artwork & Publishing Check

Students complete any remaining:

  • Illustrations

  • Posters

  • Family Tree

  • Comic pages

  • Cover artwork

  • Formatting adjustments

Teacher completes a final publication checklist with each student.

2:20–2:30 | Closing Circle

Students reflect:

  • What accomplishment are you most proud of?

  • Which chapter grew the most through revision?

  • What do you hope readers learn about you from your story?

Celebrate becoming published authors and preview tomorrow's Author Showcase and celebration.
