My Hero
My hero is my grandma. She is nice and helps me. She came from Mexico and worked hard. She always tells me to do my best. One time I was sad because I got a bad grade and she told me not to quit. I felt better. She is important because she helps everyone and she is kind. That's why she is my hero.

Draft 2: Revised Version
My Hero
My hero is my grandmother. When she was young, she left Mexico and came to the United States with very little money. She worked long hours cleaning houses while raising her family.
One afternoon I came home upset after failing a math test. I threw my backpack on the floor and said, "I'm never going to be good at this."
My grandmother sat beside me and smiled.
"You don't fail when you make a mistake," she said. "You fail when you stop trying."
Her words stayed with me. The next week I studied every night and improved my grade.
My grandmother teaches me that courage is not about being perfect. It is about continuing even when life is difficult. That is why she is my hero.
